2021.09.25 19:40 OnTheSpectrum78 Do Autistic people form better friendships with other Autistic people or Neurotypicals?
Hi. I'm a 43 year old male with Level-1 Autism (professionally diagnosed in 2018). For the majority of my adult life, I've only ever had a small group of friends I would consider close. I've always wanted to meet more people, to socialise with, talk to etc..but I don't leave the house much due to social anxiety.
If I'm being completely honest, I think neurotypicals probably find me too quiet, so no doubt a bit weird too. I read ''autistic people often crave friendships, but find forming them a complete mystery'' (something I can definitely relate to!).
What I'm wondering is, where does one meet people to form friendships. I'm gay, never drink alcohol, and am in a committed relationship, so bars are a definite no-no. Should I concentrate my efforts on meeting other Autistic people, or do Autistic people get along better with neurotypicals better? It's all a bit confusing.
All meaningful responses greatly appreciated.

2021.09.25 19:40 BarnUlv23 Network card stops working, not connected. Why ?
Yesterday, I opened my laptop (was turned on before), and it was saying it wasn't connected. Impossible to see any WiFi around me, and my WiFi was there, I could see it on my phone.
So I did the reset fix, the last option on windows, where the networks settings are, and it worked. I could connect it to my WiFi again.
But right now it happened again. I reset the network card again, but it doesn't work. Being back on, it's still written it's not connected, and no WiFi or Internet in general is being visible.
What do I do to prevent this? Where does that come from ? And most importantly, how do I fix this? Because...it still doesn't work right now.

2021.09.25 19:40 Green_Hat4140 What’s a sleep study like?
Figured I’d ask here, since a lot of you seem to have had a sleep study and/or MSLT done. I’m having those done in a hospital in a couple weeks and I’m a little nervous. I’ve been struggling with fatigue for several years now and I’m getting tested for a bunch of different stuff since the doctors have ruled out all of the common problems. They are considering POTS and UARS now, and I’m starting to thing CFS doesnt sound too far fetched either.
Anyway, I got some basic info about it from the doctor but I wanted to hear some actual experiences from people who have had it done. I’m worried that sleeping in a weird environment while being watched and monitored will make it more difficult for me to sleep and affect the results. Just wanted to also hear about the general experience, what happens when you go in, what kind of clothes I should wear etc!

2021.09.25 19:40 ToeTiddler I asked socialists what exactly they mean by "workers own the means of production"
I asked posted a couple questions in capitalism vs. socialism because I was trying to envision the logistics behind the socialists often touted phrase that "workers own the means of production". I received a pretty large variation in the responses (I counted 8 separate interpretations of this foundational tenet of their ideology in total), many of which directly conflicted with one another. I thought everyone here might be interested in seeing the results.
Here was my first question:
**I am trying to envision the logistics of the idea that workers own the means of production. I am a capitalist and so I want to make my assumptions (which may or may not be true from the viewpoint of a typical socialist) clear up front:
1) I am assuming by "workers owning the means of production" that most of you are referring to a collective or cooperative ownership of the enterprise, not public or state owned ownership (otherwise you could only reasonably expect to repeat the horrors of 20th century communist and socialist ideologies).**
And here are the answers I got:
1) Workers have equal voting rights, but company ownership does not exist/is a thing of the past.Count: 2
2) Workers have equal voting rights and equal ownership (equity) of the company.Count: 1
3) The state actually owns the mean of production, not workers.Count: 1
4) The state owns everything in the beginning, eventually the workers own their respective firms.Count: 1
5) Co-ops own everything in the beginning, eventually the state takes ownership (the opposite to the above).Count: 1
6) Businesses are all owned by the specific community, everything is local.Count: 1
7) Businesses owned by customers, employees, regional members, and citizens at large, but not local like the above.Count: 2
8) The longer you work and the more senior your position, the more ownership you have in the business (ie owned by employees only but not equal ownership).Count: 1

2021.09.25 19:40 theeeot Constant rejection and bullying has made me hate ALL women
Women are such a cruel and evil gender in general. It was not just one or two or three bad experiences. Every woman I’ve ever had any interaction with has been a completely cruel bitch. Women bullied me in school. They would grope me at my locker, they would constantly hurl insults at me in the hall. They made fake Instagram accounts posing as me to make fun of me and they made fake dating profiles to trick me into think I found someone who liked me. They are all such awful bitches! Women in general are evil and hypergamous and just lie and cheat to get what they want which is always money and a tall muscular boy because of how shallow and ducking stupid you all are. I’m glad you all have absurd stories it just shows you know how to pick them you fucking dumb bitches. Enjoy the punches whore!

2021.09.25 19:40 JuicySpark Ahhsh
This research took a little time, so I would really appreciate if you at least take some time to read it even if it kills you to read this long winded novel.
I'd like to first start off by saying Ethereum transactions do use up a good chunk of power. That part is not a myth.
However , The centralized corporate media FUD surrounding the ETH network power usage falls flat on its face.
I will explain.
One in particular. "Been watching movies on netflix since I woke up at 6am, and can't stop I'm on my 8th movie today!". - that tweet was at 11pm.
Assuming these movies averaged 1.5hr each. That's 12hours of streaming!
"How much power could it possibly take to stream our movies?, Surely it can't be more than that Evil Crypto thing all those selfish people do?", said Nancy Know Nothing, and her gluten free husband Nick Know it All. Well let's take a look!
Researchers at lancaster university found a 2-hour stream equates to boiling 10 KETTLES of tea. Each kettle of water uses 1KWH to boil.** Nancy Know Nothing bragged about 12hrs of streaming, then joined the cancel culture group to tell you evil crypto users you're hurting the environment. That's boiling 60 kettles of water. She used 60KWH! Wow and highly likely she also boiled water that day. Maybe, maybe not. Many people enjoy relaxing with a hot cup of tea while watching a movie.
An ethereum transaction uses 48.14KWH. but not per household. Or maybe per crypto user? No. That's ludicrous. Instead all this power per transaction is divided amongst many computers at many locations. And those giant farms. 😆
Now, let's compare the power needed of ETH transactions per day on the Eth network with the power needed to stream movies per day.
During this bull run, we average about 1.2 Million ETH transactions per day. "During a bull run".
This is total worldwide transactions. Not US, not Europe. Total Worldwide
That's 1.2M at 48.14KWH.
1.2M x 48.14 = 58.09M KWH per Day. Seems like an insane amount right?
Now let's look at streaming movies.
According to a Statista survey in the US. 25% of adults ages 18-29 said they streamed at least one movie per day in the early part of 2020.
That's 2.5 months of pre-pandemic lockdown mixed with only .5 months of lockdown
These aren't even figures during full lockdown which we all know is probably way higher. But let's just stick with the surgery for the early part of 2020. I don't want to add to much confusion.
I will be conservative and say these movies averaged 1.5hrs ea, and each of those 25% were conservative, and environmentally conscious(like they all claim), and only streamed one movie each.
There are 53.7 Million adults 18-29 in the US. **At 25% that's 13,400,000 adults ages 18-29 streaming at least one 1.5HR movie per day.
I'm not even considering those who streamed 2,3,4 or 8 movies like Nancy Know Nothing bragged about that day.
I'm also not considering everyone aged 4-17 and 30-XX years old who streamed movies.
Let's keep it stupid simple.
**13,400,000 x 1.5hrs = 20,100,000Hrs per day streaming movies in the US ALONE and only for the age group 18-29. and Sorry I have to keep repeating that. I'm sure some non crypto users are choosing to block that fact out of their head due to biases. Maybe some might call it a racist fact. That wouldn't surprise me much these days.
So we have 20,100,000 Hours of streaming.
According to researchers we had 10 kettles of tea per 2 hrs of steaming, and each kettle using 1KWH. 1hr of streaming would be 5 kettles or 5KWH.
20,100,000hrs x 5KWH = 100,500,000KWH per day.
100,500,000KWH Steaming Just 18-29 in US per day. 58,090,000KWH in ETH transactions per day DURING A BULL RUN! Wow! Who would've thought that just in the US in a certain age group streaming movies is almost doubling the power needed for the worldwide ethereum network?
Holy shit. Just that age group in the US. Not only that. Most of that profit is going to just a couple of big tech corps. Profits from ETH are being spread out amongst millions of regular people (and some rich mining farm owners)
If we calculated exact numbers for every age around the world for streaming per day. You can bet your ass we are in the Billions of KWH per hour.
BILLIONS in KWH! and all streaming profits go to a handful of powerful corporations. World wide Ethereum network power usage isn't even close to competing in power usage.
Not even close.
This is what the world is. This is what centralized control is about.
They feed off regular people's ignorance about crypto, make them afraid of what they do not understand by just pointing out a number, and not educating them on the bigger picture.
The real Truth. The cold honest truth is that those who are "pro-centralization" that "don't do the evil crypto thing" are eating up more power steaming propaganda filled movies than those who "do the bad crypto thing", and are Pro-Decentralization.

Eth transaction power usage per transaction source: https://www.loop-news.com/p/the-big-problem-with-nfts-energy
Quick Note: we average 300K BTC transaction per day worldwide. BTC transactions use roughly the same power per eth transaction. Still, combing these two cryptos isn't even close to the power used by US streaming movies for all age groups.
Remember: I only considered one 1.5hr stream. We all know at least 5% are steaming more than that.

2021.09.25 19:40 E0EltdHKWuYqrV6cNJ8H Opinion on therapists who are pro-death penalty
I mentioned to my therapist that someone can't be both pro-death penalty and pro-life without being a hypocrite. I joked, "How can you be both pro-death and pro-life?" I'll admit I'm assisting the joke a bit, but there's a grain of truth there. He gleefully responded that he was both pro-death penalty and pro-life. The way he said it was eerie.
I told him that I felt if he'd actually thought about the issue deeper, then he would likely arrive to the conclusion that the death penalty is a bad idea. He said I was accusing him of not having critical thinking skills. I told him if he's pro-death penalty, then I suppose that would be the case.
I apologized for saying that, and asked him to explain his position, and his reasoning boiled down to: if you want to make an omelette, you've got to break some eggs. It's easy to find the flaws with that argument. The first that came to mind was pushing back against equating human life to eggs. Then I mentioned that you could make the same argument with abortion, and pointed out the humor behind using eggs as a metaphor.
He's your typical "self-described libertarian that is secretly a red hat", but I always gave him the benefit of the doubt and separated his personal beliefs from his professional work. I'd seen him for six years.
I was appalled at his position. I suppose at this point I shouldn't have been surprised. I don't think you have to make "liberal" arguments to arrive to the conclusion that the death penalty is a bad idea. For example, I told him that DNA has already exonerated people who we have been put to death. He shrugged his shoulders. I asked how he supports smaller government because he thinks government is inefficient and incompetent, but trusts the same government to administer death. He said it was a necessarily evil, reiterating his omelette argument. So what other necessary evils are we overlooking? Maybe universal health care is another necessary evil? It's a weak argument.
I reminded him that if we incarcerate the wrong individual, then the killer goes free. And if we put to death the wrong individual, then that person and their family will never get justice. You can't reverse death. We've created two new injustices: the killer walking free, and a wrongful death. Lastly, I pointed out that the victim may have not supported the death penalty and it may be against their wishes.
None of these are necessarily leftist talking points. Even if it's tightly controlled, I can't understand giving any sort of entity that amount of power. Governments like to slowly boil frogs, and they will patiently erode at our rights and use catastrophic events to pass damaging laws in moments where there is overwhelming public support. It's happened over and over again.
He thinks marijuana and video games pose the greatest threats to society, and that we've been lied to by the media and health professionals about the dangers of COVID-19. He says they're stoking fear, which I don't necessarily disagree but the extent to which we think they're doing that we couldn't agree on. I asked him could they not have also over-exaggerated the dangers of marijuana and video games and pornography, but he wouldn't even consider it. I mentioned that he, too, is a health professional, and maybe I shouldn't trust his opinion anymore. He said that was my choice.
I had no idea he had such an astonishing lack of empathy and critical thinking. It fucking terrifies me, and I haven't been back in weeks. The best I can tell is he believes in biblical-style justice -- retributive justice -- and that there has never been a moment in his life where he questioned it. He exaggerates the threats of internal conflict (like temptation to drugs, video games, pornography) while down-playing external ones (pandemics, poverty, education). Does he not believe the world is real? It's spooky.
How the hell am I supposed to make sense of all this? I can tolerate over viewpoints or else I would have never seen him for so long. I leave open the possibility I'm wrong about the death penalty, but I can't imagine how. There have been moments where I felt he was helping me grow, but now I'm wondering if I'd have experienced that growth anyways. Thanks for reading my shit.
